Along the route of the Main Onshore Pipeline, certain locations will include Block Valve Stations (BVSs).
The function of a BVS is to isolate points along the Pipeline, allowing specific sections to be shut off when required, such as during maintenance activity.
In the highly unlikely event of a leak, the detection system installed along the Pipeline will promptly identify both the presence and location of the potential leak. Once detected, the appropriate BVS can be remotely activated to close, and isolate that section of the Pipeline.
The pipeline and block valve will be installed below ground, with a limited number of elements visible above ground. This will include a containerised kiosk housing electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Each BVS will be controlled and monitored remotely and will be located within a compound with secure fencing up to 3m high, incorporating a double access gate for vehicles. The compound will also include manually operated lighting for use during maintenance activities in low-light conditions. These will be turned off when not in use.
