Main Onshore Pipeline: Microtunnelling beneath Chester Road

Microtunnelling activities beneath Chester Road to begin in September 2026
Our Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor, United Infrastructure and its specialist tunnelling subcontractor, Joseph Gallagher Limited, are set to begin microtunnelling operations beneath Chester Road.

Microtunnelling works require 24-hour operations to ensure the safety of the tunnel and construction team. For Chester Road, these works are due to take place across approximately 21 days, starting the week commencing 21 September 2026 and ending the week commencing 12 October 2026 (subject to progress).

About microtunnelling

Microtunnelling is a trenchless tunnelling technique that will bury the Pipeline deep beneath the ground, ensuring minimal disruption to key infrastructure, transport routes and environmentally sensitive areas. This means Chester Road will remain fully operational during the works.

More information about 24-hour microtunnelling works is provided in the microtunnelling factsheet here
