Our Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor, United Infrastructure, and its specialist tunnelling subcontractor, Joseph Gallagher Limited, are set to begin microtunnelling operations under the Chester and Birkenhead railway line in the week commencing 19 October 2026.
These works are due to take place across approximately five days and are due to finish on Friday 23 October 2026 (subject to progress).
Microtunnelling works require 24-hour operations to ensure the safety of the tunnel and construction team. More information about 24-hour microtunnelling works is provided in the microtunnelling factsheet here
Microtunnelling is a trenchless tunnelling technique that will bury the Pipeline deep beneath the ground, ensuring minimal disruption to key infrastructure, transport routes and environmentally sensitive areas. This means the Chester and Birkenhead Rail Line will remain fully operational during the works.
If you have any questions about these works or would like more information, please contact the team by emailing hello@hynethub.co.uk or calling 0113 395 4495 (Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, except bank holidays).
