United Infrastructure and its tunnelling subcontractor Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL) has commenced shaft preparation works on both sides of the M53 and M56 motorway crossings this week. These works mark a key milestone in the preparatory phase for the construction of the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline).
Once complete, the shaft will serve as key access points for JGL to begin microtunnelling work which will allow installation of the Pipeline beneath the M53 and M56 motorways. Due to the trenchless nature of these works, construction of the tunnel and pipeline can continue without impacts to the operation of the M56 and M53 motorways. These works are scheduled to start in November 2025.
