Main Onshore Pipeline: Church Lane works

Enabling works are set to commence at Church Lane next week
Liverpool Bay CCS Limited's (LBCCS) Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor, United Infrastructure (UI) has commence enabling works for the construction of the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline) at Church Lane from this week.

These works, which have been approved as part of the Development Consent Order (DCO), will prepare the land for construction (including felling trees, and the removal of vegetation and hedgerows) to ensure suitable safety and visibility for residents and site traffic along Church Lane. To ensure this, traffic marshals will manage construction vehicle movements as they enter and exit Church Lane.

Please be assured that Church Lane will remain accessible for all residents.

What happens next?

The construction area will be handed over to Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL), UI's specialist tunnelling subcontractor, who will commence shaft excavations on both sides of Church Lane. These shafts will serve as key access points for the Main Onshore Pipeline's microtunnelling programme. These works are expected to start from late Spring 2026 and more details regarding the timing of these works will be provided closer to the time.

About microtunnelling

Microtunnelling is a trenchless tunnelling technique that will bury the Pipeline deep beneath the ground, ensuring minimal disruption to key infrastructure, transport routes and environmentally sensitive areas.

Microtunnelling work occurs underground and will require working 24-hours a day to ensure the safety of the tunnel and the construction team.

Future updates about the microtunnelling programme beneath Church Lane will be uploaded onto the HyNet Hub in advance.
