Point of Ayr: Update on footpath closure in Talacre

A public footpath near the Point of Ayr (PoA) Terminal has been temporarily closed to allow construction works to be carried out safely.

The closure supports the ongoing PoA Decommissioning and Site Preparation Works, which form part of preparations to enable the PoA Terminal to safely transport and store Carbon Dioxide in the depleted gas fields beneath Liverpool Bay, as part of the HyNet North West industrial decarbonisation cluster. You can find out more about the PoA developments here: https://hynethub.co.uk/poa.

Temporary closure of public right of way

The public footpath that runs between the Point of Ayr Terminal and the Colliery (highlighted in yellow on the map) is now closed to allow work to be carried out safely and securely.

An alternative footpath (in green on the map) is available along the railway line, which connects to the Wales Coastal Path (in purple on the map) while the Colliery footpath is closed. Signs will be installed to guide people to the alternative route.

Currently, the works that require the footpath to be closed are expected to continue until mid-2028.
