Point of Ayr: Light beam trial and tower demolition activities

As part of the ongoing decommissioning works at the Point of Ayr (PoA) Terminal, some additional activities will be taking place on site this week.
Light beam trial
From Monday 8 June, a light beam trial will take place within the Terminal boundary to sensitively discourage birds from entering the decommissioning works area.

During this period, residents may notice a green light beam visible on the site each night from dusk until dawn.

The light beam will follow a mapped route around the decommissioning areas within the terminal site and will always point down at the ground.

Tower demolition activities
As part of the ongoing decommissioning works at the Terminal, there will be demolition activities taking place to remove tower structures inside the Terminal boundary.

Residents may notice an increase in activity, including noise, as the towers are demolished in a controlled manner, as well as the use of unmanned ariel vehicles (also known as 'drones').
Working hours are:
  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 18:00
  • Saturday: 08:00 – 13:00
  • With up to one hour either side for site set-up and close-down
