Main Onshore Pipeline: Northop Hall AGI Update

Site preparation works progressing through June 2026
Our construction contractor, United Infrastructure (UI), is progressing with site preparation works to support the construction of the Northop Hall Above Ground Installation (AGI).

The AGI is the connection point between the Main Onshore Pipeline and the Padeswood Spur Pipeline. The Padeswood Spur Pipeline will connect the Heidelberg Materials UK cement works in Padeswood to the Main Onshore Pipeline. More information can be found on the HyNet Hub here.

What is an AGI?
An AGI is a facility along a gas pipeline that connects CO2 emitters or different parts of the network. More information on AGIs can be found on the HyNet Hub here.

What to expect as part of these works
Residents in the Northop Hall area may notice an increase in activity as construction compounds are established ahead of the AGI installation, with preparatory works scheduled between summer 2026 and spring 2027.
Initial right of way fencing and topsoil stripping activities have now been completed and works to level the ground and excavate foundations to support the AGI are due to begin shortly. Pipework and mechanical installation are expected to follow from January 2027.
Once the construction compounds are in place, a range of standard construction features will be visible on site. This includes:
  • AGI access point: Clearly marked access for construction vehicles. During set up activities there will be short term temporary 2-way light traffic management on the B5125 until the access point is completed. Notice of these works will be given in advance.
  • Signage: Health and Safety Information boards and signage explaining the works and how the site is being managed
  • Temporary cabins: Welfare facilities for on-site staff, including offices, rest areas and welfare facilities.
  • Site lighting: Lighting to support safe working, particularly in low light (unlikely to be needed during the summer with works taking place during standard daytime hours). Lighting will be pointed towards the construction compound and away from nearby homes and habitats. Site lighting will only be used during core working hours.
  • Safety measures: Barriers, fencing and traffic controls to protect both workers and the public.
We'll continue to share updates on progress at Northop Hall through the Latest News section of the HyNetHub.
